Trip Update

Due to the fires here in Colorado, we had to cut our vacation short. We live very close to the fire area, so we were worried about our home. Thankfully, our property remains safe, but the fire has been a tragic experience for our community. According to the most recent update, the fire is now 45% contained.

We went to western South Dakota:

On the road...
Lusk, WY

Somewhere in Wyoming

WY/SD border

First campground: nice, grassy camp sites but it was a pretty noisy place (close to the highway and noisy campers). It was okay for one night, but we were happy to move on after that.

Near Rapid City, SD

Custer State Park

Our second campground was much better. We would have liked to have stayed for the rest of our trip as planned...maybe we'll go back someday.

Since this was our first camping trip with Greta, I have to say there is something awesome and special about the campervan! It's freeing to be able to quickly close up camp and get back on the road. I think Greta exceeded our expectations overall. She was a cozy home away from home and she did a great job on the road.

On average, we went between 60-70 mph on highways and our gas mileage was somewhere around 17-19 mpg. Greta was very popular everywhere we went (several fellow campers came by to talk to us) We saw a few other VWs, including another from Colorado.
